H.F. 2087 Section 1. REPEAL. Section 256D.9, Code 2011, is repealed. 1 Sec. 2. EFFECTIVE DATE. This Act takes effect June 30, 2 2012. 3 EXPLANATION 4 This bill relates to the Iowa early intervention block grant 5 program by eliminating the July 1, 2012, repeal of the program 6 in Code section 256D.9. This repeal has been extended four 7 times since enactment of the program in 1999. 8 Under current law in Code section 256D.1, the program’s 9 goals for kindergarten through grade three are to provide 10 the resources needed to reduce class sizes in basic skills 11 instruction to the state goal of 17 students for every one 12 teacher; provide direction and resources for early intervention 13 efforts by school districts to achieve a higher level of 14 student success in the basic skills, especially reading skills; 15 and increase communication and accountability regarding student 16 performance. 17 The bill takes effect June 30, 2012. 18 -1- LSB 5587HH (4) 84 jp/rj 1/ 1
