H.F. 2121 Section 1. Section 598.21A, subsection 1, unnumbered 1 paragraph 1, Code 2009, is amended to read as follows: 2 Upon every judgment of annulment, dissolution, or separate 3 maintenance, the court may grant an order requiring support 4 payments to either party for a limited or indefinite length 5 of time . However, any order requiring support payments for 6 ten years or more shall be subject to modification pursuant 7 to section 598.21C at each ten-year interval of duration. 8 The court may grant the order after considering all of the 9 following: 10 Sec. 2. Section 598.21C, Code Supplement 2009, is amended by 11 adding the following new subsection: 12 NEW SUBSECTION . 7A. Additional criteria for modification 13 of spousal support order. In addition to the criteria for 14 modification of a spousal support order based on a substantial 15 change in circumstances as specified pursuant to subsection 16 1, a spousal support order requiring support payments for ten 17 years or more shall be subject to modification at each ten-year 18 interval of duration. 19 EXPLANATION 20 This bill provides that any order requiring spousal support 21 payments for 10 years or more shall be subject to modification 22 at each 10-year interval of duration.
