Senate Resolution 114 - Introduced PAG LIN 1 1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. ___ 1 2 BY BEALL, BOETTGER, BLACK, FRAISE, JOHNSON, 1 3 and TINSMAN 1 4 A Resolution recognizing the 20th anniversary of 1 5 Iowa Sister States. 1 6 WHEREAS, Iowa Sister States was established in 1985 1 7 to manage the official relationships established by 1 8 the Governor of Iowa with foreign states; and 1 9 WHEREAS, Iowa Sister States currently supports 1 10 eight official relationships with Yamanashi 1 11 Prefecture, Japan (1960); Yucatan, Mexico (1965); 1 12 Hebei Province, China (1983); Terengganu, Malaysia 1 13 (1987); Stavropol Krai, Russia (1988); Taiwan (1989); 1 14 Cherkasy Oblast, Ukraine (1996); and Veneto Region, 1 15 Italy (1997); and 1 16 WHEREAS, Iowa Sister States is a volunteer 1 17 organization dedicated to connecting Iowans with the 1 18 global community through international programs that 1 19 promote the interests of Iowa's citizens and support 1 20 the state in attaining its international goals; and 1 21 WHEREAS, Iowa Sister States' projects have involved 1 22 the citizen=to=citizen diplomacy efforts of artists, 1 23 medical professionals, environmental professionals, 1 24 athletes, educators, chefs, emergency response 1 25 professionals, state officials, and others; NOW 1 26 THEREFORE, 1 27 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate 1 28 recognizes the great accomplishments of Iowa Sister 1 29 States in bringing the world to Iowa and taking Iowa 1 30 to the world by providing opportunities for exposure 2 1 to people, ideas, and experiences that are of an 2 2 international flair; and 2 3 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Senate 2 4 congratulates Iowa Sister States on its 20 years of 2 5 existence and looks forward to future opportunities to 2 6 connect Iowa to the world. 2 7 LSB 5869SS 81 2 8 pf:nh/sh/8 1
