  1  1    Section 1.  Section 321.194, subsection 1, paragraph a,
  1  2 subparagraph (1), Code Supplement 2005, is amended to read as
  1  3 follows:
  1  4    (1)  During the hours of 6 five a.m. to 10 eleven p.m. over
  1  5 the most direct and accessible route between the licensee's
  1  6 residence and schools of enrollment or the closest school bus
  1  7 stop or public transportation service, and between schools of
  1  8 enrollment, for the purpose of attending duly scheduled
  1  9 courses of instruction and extracurricular activities within
  1 10 the school district.
  1 11                           EXPLANATION
  1 12    This bill addresses the hours when a person with a special
  1 13 minor's license is permitted to operate a motor vehicle.   A
  1 14 special minor's license can be issued to a person between 14
  1 15 and 18 years of age who does not qualify for an intermediate
  1 16 license.  The license allows the person to drive unsupervised
  1 17 between home and school for the purpose of attending classes
  1 18 and extracurricular activities during the hours of 6 a.m. to
  1 19 10 p.m.  The bill extends those hours to 5 a.m. to 11 p.m.
