  1  4     DANDEKAR, PETTENGILL, TYMESON, ALONS, FREEMAN,
  1  5   WENDT, JACOBY, MURPHY, DE BOEF, SODERBERG, MADDOX,
  1  6      HEDDENS, ARNOLD, RASMUSSEN, PAULSEN, GASKILL,
  1  7   SANDS, TOMENGA, UPMEYER, REICHERT, JONES, HUSEMAN,
  1  8                      and SCHICKEL
  1  9 A Resolution honoring the Iowa Army National Guard's 2168th
  1 10    Transportation Company for its service in support of the
  1 11    Global War on Terrorism.
  1 12    WHEREAS, the 2168th Transportation Company of the
  1 13 Iowa Army National Guard was called to active duty on
  1 14 July 18, 2004; and
  1 15    WHEREAS, the 2168th was comprised of a headquarters
  1 16 and two platoons in Sheldon and a detachment in Cedar
  1 17 Rapids; and
  1 18    WHEREAS, the company included 91 soldiers from
  1 19 Sheldon, 35 from Cedar Rapids, 23 from Mason City, 12
  1 20 from Muscatine, and nine from Centerville, with 10
  1 21 soldiers deploying for their second tour; and
  1 22    WHEREAS, the 2168th arrived in Kuwait on October
  1 23 14, 2004, at their duty station, Camp Arifjan, its
  1 24 mission consisting of transporting equipment essential
  1 25 to deploying and redeploying units; and
  1 26    WHEREAS, the 2168th Transportation Company drove
  1 27 over 300 missions to many key locations in Kuwait and
  1 28 Iraq; and
  1 29    WHEREAS, the 2168th logged over 6,233,205 miles
  1 30 throughout the deployment and is credited with
  2  1 delivering 15,508 pieces of equipment to the
  2  2 appropriate destinations; and
  2  3    WHEREAS, the 2168th served with military and
  2  4 civilian personnel from many countries, striving to
  2  5 overcome language barriers to accomplish its missions;
  2  6 and
  2  7    WHEREAS, while transporting equipment, 2168th
  2  8 personnel encountered efforts from the enemy to
  2  9 disrupt its mission, such as small arms fire,
  2 10 improvised explosive devices, and rocket propelled
  2 11 grenades, and despite those efforts, the 2168th sent
  2 12 only one soldier home due to injuries sustained from
  2 13 enemy contact; and
  2 14    WHEREAS, the 2168th Transportation Company's
  2 15 mission complete date was October 6, 2005, with the
  2 16 unit leaving Kuwait on October 11, 2005; and
  2 17    WHEREAS, the 2168th was decorated with many awards,
  2 18 consisting of five Purple Hearts, six Bronze Stars, 18
  2 19 Meritorious Service Medals, 105 Army Commendation
  2 20 Medals, 27 Army Achievement Medals, 74 Driver Badges,
  2 21 and nine Mechanic Badges; NOW THEREFORE,
  2 22    BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
  2 23 That the House of Representatives expresses its
  2 24 profound gratitude, on behalf of all Iowans, to the
  2 25 men and women of the 2168th Transportation Company for
  2 26 their steadfast dedication, excellence in performing
  2 27 their duty, and personal sacrifice.
