Senate Resolution 14 PAG LIN 1 1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. ___ 1 2 BY KRAMER, ANGELO, BEALL, BEHN, BLACK, BOETTGER, 1 3 BOLKCOM, BRUNKHORST, CONNOLLY, COURTNEY, DEARDEN, 1 4 DOTZLER, DRAKE, DVORSKY, FRAISE, GASKILL, GRONSTAL, 1 5 HATCH, HOLVECK, HORN, HOSCH, HOUSER, IVERSON, JOHNSON, 1 6 KETTERING, KIBBIE, KREIMAN, LAMBERTI, LARSON, LUNDBY, 1 7 McCOY, McKIBBEN, McKINLEY, MILLER, PUTNEY, QUIRMBACH, 1 8 RAGAN, REDFERN, REHBERG, SCHUERER, SENG, SEYMOUR, 1 9 SHULL, SIEVERS, STEWART, TINSMAN, VEENSTRA, WARNSTADT, 1 10 WIECK, and ZIEMAN 1 11 A Resolution honoring Iowa State University student= 1 12 athlete Jack Trice during Black History Month. 1 13 WHEREAS, Jack Trice was the first African=American 1 14 student=athlete at Iowa State University in 1923; and 1 15 WHEREAS, Jack Trice died at a young age from 1 16 injuries sustained in only his second varsity football 1 17 game; and 1 18 WHEREAS, Jack Trice stood for honor, determination, 1 19 devotion, commitment, and courage; and 1 20 WHEREAS, his story continues to serve as an 1 21 inspiration for all students at Iowa State University; 1 22 and 1 23 WHEREAS, a statue of Jack Trice stands outside the 1 24 football stadium of Iowa State University that bears 1 25 his name, serving as a reminder to everyone of the 1 26 ideals for which Jack Trice stood, lived, and died; 1 27 and 1 28 WHEREAS, Jack Trice was an extremely important 1 29 person in the history and development of Iowa State 1 30 University as one of the nation's leading land=grant 2 1 universities; NOW THEREFORE, 2 2 BE IT RESOLVED, That in recognition of Black 2 3 History Month, the Senate honors the memory of Jack 2 4 Trice, Iowa State University's first African=American 2 5 student=athlete, and his exemplification of the heroic 2 6 qualities of honor, determination, devotion, 2 7 commitment, and courage. 2 8 LSB 2547SS 80 2 9 rj/pj/5
