  1  2        BY  BOAL, TYMESON, BODDICKER, MANTERNACH,
  1  3                    PAULSEN, and GIPP
  1  4 A Resolution reaffirming Iowa's commitment to freedom
  1  5    and democracy and calling for an end to terrorism.
  1  6    WHEREAS, Iowa joins the United States and fellow
  1  7 democratic nations in their commitment to freedom and
  1  8 their support of self=government; and
  1  9    WHEREAS, Iowa and free nations abroad share a
  1 10 dedication to ridding the world of terrorism; and
  1 11    WHEREAS, Iowa stands together with the United
  1 12 States, Israel, and other free nations to oppose
  1 13 individuals and states that practice, condone, or
  1 14 support terrorism or unconventional warfare directed
  1 15 toward a democracy or its people; and
  1 16    WHEREAS, Iowa supports American foreign policy that
  1 17 includes, as a core principle, an unwavering
  1 18 commitment to protecting and preserving democratic
  1 19 governments; NOW THEREFORE,
  1 20    BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
  1 21 That the Iowa House of Representatives commends the
  1 22 people of democratic nations for reaffirming their
  1 23 dedication to democratic ideals; and
  1 24    BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Iowa House of
  1 25 Representatives conveys both its respect for the
  1 26 freely expressed will of the people of fellow free
  1 27 nations, and its intention to engage in constructive
  1 28 relations with governments devoted to democracy, and
  1 29 urges the international community to do so as well;
  1 30 and
  2  1    BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Iowa House of
  2  2 Representatives reaffirms the close bonds of
  2  3 friendship that have bound the people of the United
  2  4 States and the people of other free nations together
  2  5 through turbulent times; and
  2  6    BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Iowa House of
  2  7 Representatives urges organizations, individuals, and
  2  8 states who are encouraging or aiding terrorist acts
  2  9 against free nations to dismantle the terrorist
  2 10 infrastructure, end incitement to violence in official
  2 11 media, and embrace democracy; and
  2 12    BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Iowa House of
  2 13 Representatives restates Iowa's commitment to a secure
  2 14 peace for free nations fighting terrorism.
