House Resolution 108 PAG LIN 1 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 1 2 BY DE BOEF 1 3 A Resolution declaring February 12, 2004, Marriage and 1 4 Family Day. 1 5 WHEREAS, marriage and family are universal human 1 6 institutions which are the bedrocks of our society; 1 7 and 1 8 WHEREAS, a healthy marriage improves the lives of 1 9 the parties and provides a nurturing environment for 1 10 children; and 1 11 WHEREAS, good marriages and strong families are 1 12 developed through commitment, sacrifice, and hard 1 13 work; and 1 14 WHEREAS, the importance of marriage and family is 1 15 never more evident than when a loved one is absent, 1 16 such as during a time of war; and 1 17 WHEREAS, a great number of spouses and family 1 18 members have suffered the loss of loved ones during 1 19 this time of war, including our own fellow Iowans, 1 20 United States Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant Jeffrey E. 1 21 Bohr; Army Private Michael J. Deutsch; Iowa Army 1 22 National Guard Sergeant Paul F. Fisher; Army Private 1 23 Kurt R. Frosheiser; Iowa Army National Guard Private 1 24 First Class David M. Kirchhoff; United States Marine 1 25 Corps Reserve Sergeant Bradley S. Korthaus; Army 1 26 Private Kenneth A. Nalley; Iowa Army National Guard 1 27 Specialist Aaron J. Sissel; and Iowa Army National 1 28 Guard Chief Warrant Officer 4 Bruce A. Smith; and 1 29 WHEREAS, these spouses and family members truly 1 30 recognize the value of their marital and familial 2 1 relationships; and 2 2 WHEREAS, it is important that, not only at the time 2 3 of absence or loss, society as a whole recognize the 2 4 importance of marriage and family; NOW THEREFORE, 2 5 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, 2 6 That February 12, 2004, be declared Marriage and 2 7 Family Day in recognition of the importance of these 2 8 institutions in the daily lives of Iowans. 2 9 LSB 5996HH 80 2 10 pf/sh/8
