House Resolution 106 PAG LIN 1 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 1 2 BY CARROLL, DRAKE, WILDERDYKE, and SWAIM 1 3 A Resolution designating January 28, 2004, as Iowa 1 4 Telecommunications Association Day. 1 5 WHEREAS, the Iowa Telecommunications Association, 1 6 the largest and second oldest telephone association in 1 7 the United States, and its 147 members, all telephone 1 8 companies operating in Iowa, represent more than 1 9 600,000 access lines throughout Iowa, providing state= 1 10 of=the=art communications services to Iowa residents; 1 11 and 1 12 WHEREAS, the goal of the members of the Iowa 1 13 Telecommunications Association is to provide Iowans 1 14 unparalleled service and technology to meet their 1 15 communications needs; and 1 16 WHEREAS, the members of the Iowa Telecommunications 1 17 Association have deployed over 8,000 miles of 1 18 fiberoptic cables across the state; and 1 19 WHEREAS, sixty=eight percent of rural communities 1 20 served by small local telephone companies have access 1 21 to high=speed internet services; and 1 22 WHEREAS, thanks to the efforts of Iowa's rural 1 23 telephone carriers, Iowa enjoys one of the highest 1 24 rates of households with telephones in the nation, 1 25 with over 97 percent of households connected, compared 1 26 to the national average of 95 percent; and 1 27 WHEREAS, the members of the Iowa Telecommunications 1 28 Association are involved in their communities, 1 29 supporting their schools, promoting economic 1 30 development efforts, and helping to grow Iowa; NOW 2 1 THEREFORE, 2 2 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, 2 3 That the Iowa House of Representatives designates the 2 4 day of January 28, 2004, as Iowa Telecommunications 2 5 Association Day and invites the citizens of Iowa to 2 6 recognize the important role the Iowa 2 7 Telecommunications Association and its 147 members 2 8 play in providing Iowa residents with superior 2 9 telecommunications services. 2 10 LSB 5985HH 80 2 11 rj/sh/8
