  1 An Act relating to mandated insurance coverage for physician=
  2    recommended mammography for women with a family history of
  3    breast cancer.
  4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:

  1  1    Section 1.  Section 514C.4, subsection 1, unnumbered
  1  2 paragraph 1, Code 2003, is amended to read as follows:
  1  3    A policy or contract providing for third=party payment or
  1  4 prepayment of health or medical expenses shall provide minimum
  1  5 mammography examination coverage, including, but not limited
  1  6 to, the following classes of third=party payment provider
  1  7 contracts or policies delivered, issued for delivery,
  1  8 continued, or renewed in this state on or after July 1, 1989
  1  9 2003:
  1 10    Sec. 2.  Section 514C.4, subsection 2, Code 2003, is
  1 11 amended by adding the following new paragraph:
  1 12    NEW PARAGRAPH.  d.  A mammogram every six months for any
  1 13 woman whose family has a history of breast cancer, if
  1 14 recommended by the woman's physician.
  1 15    Sec. 3.  Section 514C.4, subsection 4, Code 2003, is
  1 16 amended to read as follows:
  1 17    4.  The commissioner of insurance shall adopt rules under
  1 18 chapter 17A necessary to implement administer this section no
  1 19 later than July 1, 1989.
  1 20                           EXPLANATION
  1 21    This bill amends Code section 514C.4, relating to mandated
  1 22 insurance coverage for mammography.  The bill adds required
  1 23 coverage for physician=recommended mammograms every six months
  1 24 for women with a family history of breast cancer.  The bill
  1 25 also deletes an outdated 1989 date reference in Code language
  1 26 requiring the insurance commissioner to adopt administrative
  1 27 rules to administer the Code section.
