Section 47.2, subsection 2, Code 2019, is amended 7 to read as follows: 8 2. a. When an election is to be held as required by law 9 or is called by a political subdivision of the state and the 10 political subdivision is located in more than one county, the 11 county commissioner of elections of the county having the 12 greatest taxable base within the political subdivision shall 13 conduct that election. The county commissioners of elections 14 of the other counties in which the political subdivision 15 is located shall cooperate with the county commissioner of 16 elections who is conducting the election. 17 b. Notwithstanding paragraph “a” , for a city primary 18 election, city runoff election or a special election for 19 a city, school district, or merged area, if a political 20 subdivision is located in more than one county, the county 21 commissioner of elections of a county not having the greatest 22 taxable base within the political subdivision may designate 23 that the controlling commissioner of the political subdivision 24 shall conduct that election if fewer than one hundred and 25 twenty-five registered voters of the political subdivision 26 are located within such county commissioner’s county. If the 27 controlling commissioner is so designated, section 50.24, 28 subsections 3A and 3B, as enacted by 2017 Iowa Acts, ch. 155, 29 828, shall not apply. For the purposes of this paragraph, the 30 number of registered voters shall be the number of registered 31 voters in the political subdivision of a county not having the 32 greatest taxable base on May 1 immediately preceding the first 33 day of the filing period for candidates for the election.
