With some of the world's most productive soil we can and should feed our own population as well as sell to others. Instead we import 90% of our food. This unavailability contributes to the situation of food deserts and impoverished small towns. We can do better, and a grocer reinvestment fund could help. Please advance this proposal.

I urge you to advance this bill to create a grocer reinvestment fund with related programming. After recently reading Palaces for the People, I can reflect and realize that a grocery store is not just a place to buy things. It is provides social infrastructure, a way for neighbors to keep tabs on each other. This helps us care for each other when someone's absence is noticed, which is a much larger piece of small town life that groceries happen to facilitate. Thank you for your consideration.

Our rural areas have been neglected in many ways, and our current practice of monopoly business consolidation creates an impossible playing field for small grocers who would serve these areas. We must do what we can to keep these areas economically AND nutritionally sustainable.
